We, at Offshore Monitoring Limited (OSM), are looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer, comfortable with using languages and software development frameworks such as C/C++, Qt, Python, Javascript / React, and WebAssembly, and capable of leading and driving progress for a team of developers. We are looking for someone passionate about combining the skills of software design, development, and programming with technical project management. Additionally, the individual in this role will manage software development, implementation, and deployment for various ongoing projects. This position will report directly to the Chief Technical Officer (CTO).

We, along with a consortium of partners, have won a project focused on enhancing safer navigation at sea. This project will mark the first step towards autonomous shipping. Offshore Monitoring Ltd. (OSM) requires an enthusiastic, challenge-driven individual who can assist the CTO in managing the consortium´s team of software developers.

Founded in 2007, Cyprus-based OSM has international partners and a global team. We specialize in maritime technologies and scientific research. We work with emerging technologies with an aim to transfer them to the maritime sector and convert them into practical platforms for the shipping industry. We develop monitoring systems and sensor solutions for maritime segments using innovative approaches and unconventional techniques. OSM has also participated in several large maritime R&D projects.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the software development/technical team, and dedicating time to training, mentoring, and providing technical guidance to junior software developers / engineers
  • Experience of Technical Project Management and organizing the workflow for the team of developers
  • Plan and conduct team meetings and feedback sessions to discuss projects, brainstorm ideas, and put forward solutions to any issues
  • Managing/overseeing design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications, and optimizing deployment pipeline
  • Managing the maintenance of code repositories, and CI / CD facilities including automated testing, and technical documentation
  • Implementing and ensuring compliance with coding standards
  • Assist in managing a variety of tasks, prioritize a heavy workload with multiple priorities, and meet targets
  • Attend meetings (virtually and in person abroad) with other groups in the organization and possible clients, conferences, and trainings as required

About you:

  • Academic background in software engineering, computer science or related discipline
  • At least 5+ years of hands-on software development experience
  • Strong working experience of establishing / supporting software infrastructure based on Linux/Unix, Docker, Containers, GitHub, CI/CD best practices
  • Hands-on expertise writing code in some of the software development technologies that we work with: C/C++, Qt, Python, Javascript / React, WebAssembly.
  • Prior experience of managing a team will be preferred
  • Experience / exposure to scientific programming (data analytics, computer vision, machine learning, etc.) will be a plus
  • Ability to multitask and a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to collaborate with a multi-lingual and multi-cultural international team
  • Analytical thinking, strategic planning and ability to problem solve and develop solutions
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead a strategic hiring and employee performance plan in consultation with the management team, that delivers the company objectives
  • Strategically plan and execute company expansion plans with the management team through resource and sustainable budget planning
  • Lead talent management and succession planning of the resources across the company

About you:

  • Postgraduate/Graduate University degree in any field related to management and administration
  • Exceptional knowledge of EU and UK employment law
  • Demonstrated leadership in organization growth and subsequent change
  • Experience of developing and executing HR strategies
  • Experience of managing HR within a fast-paced dynamic and creative environment
  • Excellent computer literacy (MS Project, MS Office, MS Teams etc.)

Responsibilities 

As a UI/UX Designer your responsibilities will include:

Essential: 

  • Collaborating with the in-house cross-functional team members and stakeholders to gather requirements and create inclusive user experience
  • Organize and lead research to ensure users are integral to the design process
  • Translate complex technical information into engaging and easy-to-understand digital content that meets the needs of the target audience
  • Quickly and iteratively produce sketched concepts, user journeys, wireframes, and interactive prototypes that reflect user needs
  • Create surveys to gather feedback on users’ ease of use and satisfaction interfacing on company product
  • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems. Use analytics and metrics to make informed design decisions.

Desirable:

  • Use recent studies and findings to establish the best overall design elements to include in UX design experiences
  • Evaluate and recommend the latest and most suitable UX tools and ensure our processes follow the best UX standards and practices

About you: 

  • Minimum 2-3 years of end-user design experience in a dynamic environment
  • Intuitive grasp of UI and usability best practices, emerging trends, and constraints
  • Strong portfolio of UX solutions with exceptional visual design and solid information architecture
  • Advanced proficiency with design (photoshop/illustrator/Sketch/Adobe XD) and prototyping tools (Azure, InDesign, or equivalent)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several milestones and projects efficiently
  • Experience creating storyboards and product prototyping
  • Great communication, organization, and presentation skills and a passion for problem solving/process improvement
